Professional Experience

2/95 – present President/Principal Geophysicist, Geophysical Solutions. Geophysical contracting and consulting in Environmental, Engineering, and Mining Exploration applications. Current assignment is working in collaboration with the University of the West Indies (Barbados campus) on a three-island study of saltwater intrusion. A pilot study was done on Barbados in 2002, and pilot studies are scheduled for Jamaica and Antigua in 2003. In addition, this consists of a teaching a graduate short course in geophysics applied to saltwater intrusion problems (Barbados in 2002, Jamaica and Antigua in 2003).

5/02 – present Adjunct Professor, Visiting Assistant Professor (August 2002 – April 2003), Department of Geology, University of South Florida, Tampa, Florida. Taught Physical Geology course in the summer session, two sections of Oceanography Fall Semester, a graduate course in Environmental Geophysics in the Spring 2003 Semester. Research applying electrical and electromagnetic methods in mapping Karst aquifers (incl. seawater encroachment in Barbados, Antigua, Jamaica), and electromagnetic mapping of high temperature basalt & groundwater on active volcanoes (Nicaragua, Mexico).

9/94 – 1/03 (Part-Time) Geophysicist, (Lockheed Martin, June 1999 – present, Roy F. Weston, Inc., Sept. 1994 – June 1999), Edison, New Jersey. Environmental geophysics fieldwork and interpretation in support of REAC (Response, Engineering, Analytical Contract), U.S. EPA Environmental Response Team Center.

9/94 - 5/02 Assistant Professor, Geosciences Department, University of Southern Maine, Gorham, Maine. Teaching assignments included Physical Geology Lecture and Lab, Introduction to Oceanography, Introduction to Geophysics, and Environmental Geophysics courses. Informally taught math and physics curricula to assist geoscience majors in those required courses. Research involved the application of geophysical methods to delineation of fracture-flow aquifer systems and other systems exhibiting anisotropic hydraulic behavior, and the application of electromagnetic methods to map high-temperature basalt and structure at active volcanoes.

4/91 - 8/94 Project Manager, Roy F. Weston, Inc., Cincinnati, Ohio. Hydrogeologic site assessment/contamination of groundwater and/or soils for the REAC Contract, U.S. EPA.

10/84 - 4/91 Supervising Geophysicist, New Jersey Geological Survey, Trenton, New Jersey. Geophysical applied research and project work involving geologic and hydrogeological projects within New Jersey.

7/80 - 10/84 Geophysicist, Amoco Minerals Company, Englewood, Colorado. Responsibilities included the recommendation, management, and interpretation of all geophysical exploration for base and precious metals within the company's U.S. Region.

1/79 - 6/80 Research Assistant, University of Utah Geophysics Department, Salt Lake City, Utah. Worked on documentation of a computer program for the 1-D inversion of resistivity data, assisted in the instruction of a field course in electrical methods of exploration, and Master’s thesis research.

Summer, 1978 Computer Geologist, Cities Service Oil Company, Tulsa, Oklahoma. Computer work including the analysis and interpretation of geothermal gradient data from oil well logs in the Alberta basin, western Canada.

1/78 - 6/78 Research Assistant, University of Utah Seismograph Station, Salt Lake City, Utah. Preliminary research to assess seismic hazards along the Wasatch fault zone.
